I wanted to say that this person is harvesting rice because I assume the person is Asian and scything plants. But I don't believe that these are rice plants/paddies. I started off kind of blocking in the canvas with a mid yellow and then blocking in the figure. I became a little too nit picky with detail before really blocking in everything. I feel like I faked the bounce light of the figure's shirt onto the basket, because I'm not sure if there's really blue/turquoise there. I could be a lot more saturated. And her gesture's wrong. Lots more to learn, hopefully the next one. Image was taken from Amy's page which was suggested by Goro. Thanks them! +/- 30mins.
Oh Farmboy. When I saw this image, I was thinking, ooh farmboy, how exciting! I'm not sure but it's safe to say that this kicked me butt. I had hard time getting the warms correctly. The image was provided by the superstock, but recommended by Mister Goro. Thanks! 30mins.
There's two versions, because the first was when I finished and noticed that my values were wrong. Which I believe if I did more correct during the blocking stage, would have been more solved, and so I went back with a multiply layer and darkened it. Still fighting. 75mins.
I'm not sure why, but for me I felt more comfortable painting this one, I'm not sure if it's any better than the others, but I like it. I still have trouble seeing the values, tones, and hues. I'm sometimes feeling that I can see color where I shouldn't be seeing certain colors. I'm still struggling with technique and how I may simplify my brush strokes.
I'm having a hard time finding and simplifying shapes. I find myself constantly trying to detail, and if not, not being able to find the shape. Will keep working on it! 30mins.
I had a really difficult time trying to find the various blues in the picture to work in harmony with each other. Separating the values and the colors and just everything was kicking my butt. I do feel that something was happening with the statue as I was painting it. I'm not sure if it's a positive thing, but something happened. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it felt like I was no longer painting the object. I hope this is the right feeling and I hope that it'll lead to a diferent way of seeing.
Thank you National Geographic for the image again. I had more fun with this than the last one, but at the moment, I am not sure what it is that I'm doing or what exactly that I'm learning. Feeling a little oblivious at the moment, :)30mins.
Nickelodeon had an assignment to create a character that was either a male rhino in woman's clothing or a female wolf in sheep's clothing. Amy thought it be fitting to attempt one of the animals. 30mins.
